Keeping in view the phobia of mathematics among the students, it is felt by the subject experts and educationists all over the country that mathematics should be taught by way of experiments by using inexpensive and easily available material, pictures, posters, games puzzles, models, geometrical instruments etc. Therefore, reputed examination boards like CBSE, ICSE and some State Boards have made it mandatory to add a Mathematics laboratory at secondary and senior secondary levels in all schools, falling under their purview. To make this purpose of establishing mathematics laboratory successful and result oriented. I have made sincere efforts to bring up a very first book on this subject.

Description

It is a general misconception that mathematics is a difficult subject. Even many more think that the subject is meant only for persons of higher mental ability. This wrong perception creates resistance to learning and has an adverse effect to learning attitude. This however is not very right as school mathematics is very easy and within the reach of an average student. The basic problem behind the conception is an incorrect approach and process associated with the teaching and learning of the subject. What is desired is to create a right approach to learning of the subject. The subject needs to be learnt with a sense of joy and delight and should be related to real life situations to create interest for its learning, whenever possible.

Finally, I would like to say that ‘Maths lab’ should not become another burden on the students. Students should be taken to maths labs once in a week for the practical approach and practical teaching of some of the specific topics. This maths lab will certainly reduce the burden and phobia of maths among the students.
